Each image begins with a photograph taken in an ordinary place: a platform, a seafront, a dining room, a market, a playing court. These are places that exist because they regulate behavior — where you walk, where you wait, where you buy, where you play. Into each of them an animal has been introduced that the place, by the way it works, excludes.
Nothing happens. The animal does not threaten, does not flee, does not look at the camera. The people present do not turn around. The place goes on working as though the rule that holds it together had not been broken.
The subject of this series is not the animal. It is the place, and the threshold beyond which it stops noticing what it contains.
