Photography is born from a gesture of exclusion.
Every photographic image is the result of a choice: what enters the rectangle of the frame becomes visible, legitimate, real. What remains outside is silenced. Photography does not lie in the traditional sense — but it performs a reduction. It is a partial truth, a stabilized fragment of a wider world.
This project begins with that fragment. Taking existing photographs as a starting point, I use generative artificial intelligence to reconstruct not what the image shows, but what it excludes. Not a harmonious continuation — a dissonant expansion.
AI becomes a tool for breaking the rectangle. If the photographer chose what to include, I choose what to re-include. The operation reverses the traditional photographic gesture: the photographer starts from reality and compresses it into a rectangle. I start from the rectangle and reopen it toward a possible reality — opposite, disturbing, incongruous.
